Website Usability
What exactly is the website usability? In simpler terms,
the website usability can be defined as the measure of how
effectively and efficiently users can complete the tasks which they
were trying to do when they visit your website. You should create a
website for the users and not for the search engines.
Once you have successfully optimized your website and have achieved
the desired search engine rankings, your traffic will definitely
increase and a website can be considered as a successful one if it
converts its visitors into returning visitors to great extent. There
are already tons of websites available which offers same services,
products and to beat them, you need to optimize your website to
achieve high search engine rankings and you should also offer
something which is good enough to convert your visitors into
returning visitors. The usability of the website is also important
and therefore, the website should be easy to navigate and should
offer interesting information in an easy language.
There are some basic things which you should take into account while
developing a website as these can help you to improve your user’s
experience and some of these are discussed below –
Content - The saying “Content is the King” is true in every
sense. Usually, people visit websites while looking for some
specific information i.e. the content on the website attracts the
visitors and if the content is of great quality and up-to-date then
people will keep re-visiting the site to check out the new
information. If the users don’t find anything useful on the website
then they won’t visit it again and the website will lose traffic.
So, you need to provide the latest information in your niche to
attract the visitors and to improve their experience, the
information should be to the point as it also takes more time to
read the content from the computer screen. The text on the webpage
should be easily readable and so, short paragraphs, subheadings,
bulleted items should be used at appropriate places. You should also
try to make sure that there are no errors on the page and there are
no grammar mistakes and misspellings otherwise you might lose the
trust of your visitors.
Design - People usually visit websites while looking for
information but no one will enjoy an ugly looking and not so easy to
navigate website. So, a simple and a clean website design also
improve the user’s experience. You may use flash, graphics to
improve the looks of the site but excess of these things increases
the loading time which is not much appreciated by the users and so,
you should try to keep the design simple to maintain an acceptable
load time.
Also, you need to make sure that it is easy to navigate through the
number of pages available on your website. The site should be
well-organized and you should try to maintain the same look
throughout the site. You should try to incorporate clear navigation
to improve the user experience. You should try to make sure
that your site is up all the time and doesn’t face any downtime
because the visitors can lose the faith from a site which is
constantly facing downtimes. So, you should host the site on some
secure server.
In short, you should always try to improve the user experience as
the users will keep visiting the websites which provide required
information and are easy to navigate and understand. Therefore, the
usability of the website plays an important role in transforming a
website into an established website as the site offering smooth user
experience will be more popular among users when compared to a site
with not-so smooth user experience.
